Hello and thanks for reading the Weekly Boost — a roundup of things I’m exploring, creating, or simply enjoying to help you get that extra edge this week.
If you’re new, or forgot (I forgive you), I’m Matt Levene (@mattjlevene). Some of my favorite topics include health, fitness, self discovery, consciousness, and travel. As I explore, experiment, and battle-test, I will share the good stuff here!
Anyways, on with the Boost…
I upgraded my workout tracking
For the past seven months, I’ve been using Strong to record my workouts.
If they had a referral program I would be their MVP.
For the past 13 years, I’ve always used a pen and notebook. No matter which app I tried, it was never quite right. I focus on progressive overload, which means I need to know where I stand with each rep and pound. Most apps are not designed well for this.
If your workouts are fairly consistent from week-to-week, I think you’ll appreciate how well-designed this app is. You can use it for free depending on how many workout templates you want to save. I paid $100 for lifetime access to all the features.
Highly recommend.
A new word I learned
pronoia — the suspicion the Universe is a conspiracy on your behalf.
You can read this as ego-driven and potentially destructive, but I prefer to see it as benign and positive. At a minimum, adopting this belief helps me notice more of the good things already in my life.
My daily journal practice
I put pen to paper for a few minutes each day right when I wake up and before I hit the hay. I view this as a daily check-in with the part of myself that has his head on straight.
I wrote a blog post about it here: My daily journal practice.
What is something you go out of your way to do today that you hope to still do in your old age?
That’s all for this week’s Boost. Live well.
